Back on the Ring Road I drove further east until I reached the Jökulsárlón lagoon again. Despite having been here two times now I couldn´t help but stop again. It was close to midnight now and still overcast but in the west some shimmers of the slowly setting sun were visible. It was absolutely calm, and the lagoon had become a large mirror reflecting the different shades of blue of the icebergs and the light purple of the sky. This was absolutely magic and standing up on the hills overlooking the lagoon was a meditative experience.

Very few people were around which by itself is a big relieve compared to the masses that roam the area during the day. I walked around a little bit and watched until I got too cold. This was the perfect finish of another amazing day in the Icelandic nature.

Back at the van I put the heating on max, changed the CD and drove for another hour until I reached Höfn, where I pulled into the campground which would be my basecamp for the following days with hopefully a decent east swell and an cooperative wind.
