At the beginning the road was easily drivable with my van but once it turned into a windy and steep ascent leading up to the plain south of the mountain rang it became too rough. I might have passed this ascent but to only to the price of a lot of stress for the van´s engine and tyres and me and therefor decided not to continue.

So, I stopped the van before the road got too steep, pulled the hand brake – with the necessary trust in its functioning – and got out to at least savour the view. Not for the first time on the island I wished I had a van more suited for harsh off-road territory. But I had to deal with my limitations and so I returned to the main road and drove back west hoping for some adventures I was better equipped for.

It was still mostly sunny and calm and when I reached the reef, I could see some small lines on the ocean. The local surf crew had still set up camp but apparently left due to insufficient swell size. But these tiny waves were just right for me to paddle out on the longboard and get a first taste of the reef.
