Thursday July 27th
Yesterday I had got a message from a guy asking for recommendations about where to surf today in the Reykjanes area. First, I had been very reluctant in giving advice but then it turned out that the request came from a guy from Klitmøller in Denmark whom I had met during an epic day up there a few years ago. So, I had told him where to go.
First thing I did that morning was walking to that point to see what was left from yesterdays mighty swell. It was very little and rapidly decreasing and the wind was turning northeast – which is side-onshore here – and steadily increasing. It rapidly became un-surfable and when Kaspar and his buddy arrived, I only could tell them “you should have been here yesterday”…
But there was some southerly swell left and on a predominantly south facing coast and with a north-easterly wind there should break some surf-able waves somewhere. So, we went for a search. The most obvious choice were the south facing black-sand beaches just a few kilometres northeast of the point and there we went.
