The descent of the dirt track from my parking position at the pass was a bit hairy but the remaining four kilometres along the wetland to Landmannalaugar were an easy drive. Landmannalaugar means “hot springs of the people from the countryside” and obviously refers to the hot springs at the front of a huge igneous lava stream running into the wetland valley whose flanks the road had followed.
