Ice-EP12-81h

Warming up in the sun and having a second breakfast in the van I spotted something at the other side of the fjord that seemed worth having a closer look at. I packed my stuff and drove over to have a look. The swell was too small but sufficient to hint the potential of this point (later I recognized this break in a few film clips and learned how good it can get). I waited for a while to see if there could be the odd set big enough to make it worth paddling out, but it stayed too small and therefor broke too close to the rocks.

I decided to move on south deeper into the fjord and see what was on offer there. Right behind the point the road turned into another long single-lane tunnel. When it finally ended, I was high up the mountain flanks with a great view over the fjord. I stopped at the next possibility to have a look down at the fjord and was greeted by the sight of a solid reef break with a mighty waterfall in the background. Both were completely inaccessible but beautiful to watch from far. Iceland-style.

A strong northerly wind was blowing through the fjord but the size of the swell breaking at the reef raised hope that I might find something further down the road. The next possibility to get down to the sea was in Dalvik close to the inner end of the fjord. The town was very nice and it had a large sand beach but no waves reached this area.
