Ice-EP12-73h

Saturday, August 19th

I got up early and was glad that the sky was clearing up and it was dry. A bit chilly and with some fog still up at the mountains but the light north-westerly wind and the odd sunny patches appearing on top of the ridges let me hope for a sunny day. I had some time to kill before the nearby café would open and I could have a breakfast in the warmth and I used it for a walk into the harbour and a surf check at the bordering black sand beach.

There was a bit of swell and no wind and after a quicker than intended breakfast in the café I drove over to the beach and parked close to the fish-drying scaffolding. It was sunny now albeit still pretty cold but the sea was almost glassy and the breaking waves looked surfable. I had no more excuses and paddled out on my longboard.

Due to the reflections from the harbour wall the peaks were quite shifting and some waves hat a tendency to break almost slab-like very fast and hollow. But after a bit of paddling here and there I found a position and caught a few waves. It wasn´t the kind of surf you would drive several hours for, but it was nice especially with the majestic mountains surrounding the fjord and the fine weather.
