A narrow and even bumpier road led inland for about 3 more kilometres to a completely overcrowded parking. I had to turn and find a place along the road to park my van and get into hiking boots.

At the parking a rough footpath started and led over hilly terrain to a ridge overlooking a canyon which cut deep into the steep mountain flanks. Access down to the river was over and through a smaller but evenly steep rock ridge. The cliff above the river had been signposted as the first major viewpoint with for the waterfalls and the canyon. Down at the river a tricky crossing via slippery and half-submerged rocks and an evenly slippery trunk of a tree posed the first major obstacle for less outdoor-savvy hikers.

I hoped that this combination would thin out the crowd significantly, but most people tried and managed to get across the river, albeit some of them with wet feet. But after about 50 meters along the other side of the river the next challenge awaited the inexperienced and unfit. The path started to climb almost vertically over a rock shelf. It was just a few meters and steel cables helped getting up, but the path was very worn out by erosion and probably too many people having climbed it.
