So, I left Egilsstadir and drove through the barren Fagridalur, a wide valley leading in a slow ascent up to another summit before the road descends down to the largest fjord in the area, the Reydarfjordur.
Down at the fjord I decided not to take the shortcut to the south via the tunnel but follow the gravel road along the southern side of the fjord to cape Vattarnes. The coast along the peninsula turned out to be a mix of rocky parts and small sandy bays and all together provided a promising setup but like the Seyðisfjörður was cutting very deep inland and therefor is very sheltered. If there ever break any waves inside the fjord it needs a massive swell. Cape Vattarnes at the tip of the peninsula is way more exposed but there was no swell at all, so I could just speculate about the potential for surf here.
South of cape Vattarnes into the next fjord it was the same picture. Some interesting setups but not a ripple on the sea to verify the potential for surf. But again, the fantastic landscape compensated the lack of action on the sea and the incoming clouds added some extra drama.
