That was all they could do for me but at least I had an idea about the loading level of the batteries. The reason for this could be interrupted or weak cable connections or a malfunction of the alternator. To sort this out myself I needed to get this electricity measuring device to see if the batteries would recover. So, I went to a car parts shop nearby and found a device that I bought.
Suspicious from the experience with the device from the building supplies store I immediately probed it on the batteries and once again had a blanc display. As it was very improbable that once again I had purchased a non-functioning device I checked it closely and unlocked the screws at the back of the device to open the battery box.
And then I knew what caused the non-function of the device: there were no batteries inside. So I went back to the shop and bought fitting batteries and now the thing was working. I was relieved albeit pretty pissed about the two hours it took me to sort all these things out. But now I could get back on the road and begin with further exploration of the island.
My original plan had been to head north from here straight away to follow the ring road around the island counter-clockwise. But as there was absolutely flatness forecasted for the whole week up north I had decided to have a look at the east coast and the glaciers further south first.
