So, I left Seyðisfjörður and drove up the steep road to the summit overlooking the fjord and down to Egilsstadir. This was by far the largest town in the area and had supermarkets, garages and a range of supply shops. I first went to the supermarket to fill up my food stocks. Then I went to a building supplies store and bought an electricity checking device.
Unfortunately, it only had a manual in Icelandic language. I tried different settings and checked the batteries. On all settings the display showed zero. So, I called a friend, sent him a picture of the device to seek advice on the correct settings. I then tried again with the correct setting but again the display stuck at zero. I assumed that the device wasn´t working correctly and returned it to the shop.
Then I went to a nearby garage and asked the mechanics if they could check my electricity. They told me that they were having no time, but I managed to convince them at least to check the energy of my batteries. After a while they came with an odd looking measuring device but apparently weren´t really familiar with it. The device showed zero volt for both batteries. This seemed very impossible and indeed it turned out that they had used the wrong device and some guy went to get a proper one. We checked the batteries again and this time it was 9.6 volt which is very low.
