I was ready to paddle out for a second session and thought about avoiding the growing crowd by trying the banks at the next jetty. But in the end the crowds were balanced by a good frequency of fun waves and I joined the pack.
Once again the forecasts had been too pessimistic concerning the duration of a windswell created by more or less local northerly winds. Instead of dropping to a lame 0.8 meters @ 6 seconds in the early afternoon it kept coming. I secretly had hoped for something like this happening especially as the good ol´ Dane had shown a small new wind field building at noon and lasting for a couple hours further north. But you never can count on this when having to decide to go for a 400 kilometres drive (one way) for a day trip and in the end it was a mixture of intuition and desperation that made me go.
In the end I never had to switch into plan B (which was windsurfing and I would have been very happy about a sailing session too) and the incoming weekenders had enough swell left for not being bothered by “you should have been here some hours ago” talk.
And so the vibe in the growing lineup crowd – I counted a maximum of 15 guys and girls out – stayed friendly despite a tight take-off zone resembling a point break. It was already eight o´clock in the evening when the swell finally started to vanish and there were still a few guys out milking the remnants of a surprisingly good swell. Or should I better say, a mediocre swell that met a perfectly shaped bottom contour? Hope this bank lasts for a while.
