During summer, an increasing number of people in Germany had started to dig their head deep into the sand and pretend that there was no virus or there was no risk from the virus. Even seasoned travellers and until recently apparently open minded and reasonable people suddenly somehow forgot that we have neighbouring countries like Italy, France, Spain or the UK in complete neglecting what had happened there in the early stages of the pandemic.
The refusal of these people to protect themselves and others for instance by wearing masks and the hostility of some of these people against folks following the recommendations and rules alone was cause for concern. But due to the partial retreat of the virus during summer months many understanding and sensible people also tended to drop their guard. A – very understandable – general desire / feeling of having overcome the pandemic started to spread and in combination with increased travelling for holidays the virus got the possibility to spread again.
