2020 was reaching its end and it was already clear that the pandemic was not. Wishful thinking and cowardice have led to a situation that topped the first wave of the pandemic in infection rates, overstrained health systems and death rates. Politicians all over Europe had acted too late and too hesitant while a loud minority was crying foul and propagating ridiculous theories to hide their dumbness and cowardice. There was a silver line at the horizon with a couple of vaccines having been approved, but vaccination had only just started.
So, for the first time I was fully happy that we were having this holiday house close to Saint Tropez. Borders between France and Germany were still open, and you only had to show an actual negative Covid test to cross it. And once down there, we would have a safe haven in a much better climate and close to the Mediterranean Sea. I didn´t expect too much wave- and wind-wise from that part of the Med anymore, but there always was a chance and there were the coastal hills and mountains at least allowing some nice mountain biking. And yes, the area is generally quite beautiful, especially in winter when there are less people around.
