Not Epic

The late summer in northern Germany and Denmark was pretty warm AND pretty windy. A good combination for plenty of fun water time. Unfortunately my time schedules were pretty tight and the damaged Autobahn bridge over the North Sea to Baltic Sea canal made day trips to the Danish North Sea coast almost impossible. As this bridge is one of only three possibilities to cross the canal, traffic jams were immense and added at least one hour to an already long drive.

So I had to stay near home and sort of rediscovered the Baltic Sea. One particular weekend in mid-August became a nightmare for the large semi-monopolist energy companies using fossils and atomic power plants to produce to produce electricity as the sun was shining and the wind was blowing all day, delivering an abundance of renewable energy. This constellation also produced a lot of positive energy in the brains of surfers, windsurfers and kite-boarders. I was lucky and managed to get 1 ½ days of and join the party.

Winds from the east made the Lübecker Bucht my chosen destination. I left Hamburg in the late Saturday Afternoon and drove straight to the most popular surf destination in the area. About an hour later a quick check from the bridge revealed the usual chaotic onshore waves with plenty of surf aficionados in the sea. The wobble had some size, it was warm and there was not too much daylight left, so I decided to go for a surf, something I rarely do in the Baltic Sea as I rather go windsurfing instead of struggling with the onshore mush. Due to the warm temperature and the odd fun ride of some of the more skilled surfers in the water, I choose to take my fish board, which is pretty small.
