The next thing to notice is the high skill level out in the water. It´s not just world cuppers Adam Lewis, Alex Mussolini, Valter Scotto and Dany Bruch, who rip, there´s also a bunch of locals pulling back loops with almost 100 per cent success and showing wave 360s without end. And then there´s a few under 15 kids who loop and shred waves as they want it. This motivates a lot and pushes you to try harder and risk more. This makes you better within a few sessions and helps to take advantage of the conditions.

And exactly this we did, day after day: get up, take breakfast, carry the gear from the garage to the beach 20 meters away, take a downwinder to the reef, sail until it hurts, get back upwind, eat, repeat the morning program until dusk including the odd visit of before mentioned Godzilla.

They say there are plenty of alternatives on
Tenerife, when the wind doesn´t blow. We had no chance to verify this having non-stop wind. But nobody But nobody complained…

It lasted a whole week until, exactly at 16:00 the wind got switched off, coincidentally one hour before check in for our flight back. Perfect timing, I´d say….

Travel Info:

Getting there: Tenerife is, like all Canary islands, pretty easy accessible from northern Europe. Amongst others there are Air Berlin, Condor, Ryanair, EasyJet who fly there on a regular basis. Just have a close look on luggage fares before you book. Avoiding peak holiday seasons and booking in advance you should manage to get a round trip for about 350 Euros.
