Without palm trees but with an ample amount of cool drinks, carpeted floor for the spoiled feet and a small village consisting of tents, right in front of one of the breaks. The saying „from bed onto the board“ gets a whole new meaning here, when you wake up to the sound of breaking waves.

The waves are worth a few words. Basically they were the reason for our trip across half of the globe, not the tequila or the cacti. The pictures of that PWA Wave World Cup in 1999 were imprinted in our heads, endless waves with mythical names like Chilli Bowl or Bomborra.

A lot has changed in the world since 1999, not much has changed in Punta San Carlos, or PSC (the international Code for the Airport, laid out of bleached stones right on the stony runway). Apart from new windsurfing stuff on the water, neither the scenery nor the quality of waves has changed. The waves are still as perfect, clean and long as they were in 1999.

Different to other surf stations around the globe, there is no reason to get in a rush in PSC, if you are after some quality waves. Even at peak times there were more than enough waves, to guarantee a completely relaxed vibe on the water, with windsurfers, kiteboarders, surfers and even standup paddlers sharing the waves.

These are some of the main attractions at PSC, surfing or SUP-ing. As a dry but dusty alternative there are some world class mountain bike trails running around the camp, with catchy names like „Rattlesnake“ trail or „Snake Run“, really cool trails through unspoiled country, either on your own or with a guide, but always with some snakes, some of them even rattling.
