Chris attempted to tow Jan with his broken gear onto the biggest possible set and thereby to push the limits of Tow-In-Surfing into new heights found a desastrous ending in the impact zone, with both of them getting a massiv pounding, that even had the helicopter crew giving standing ovations. Somehow both made it back to the beach just in front of the steep cliffs, with Jan´s sail beeing declared as MIA, missing in action. We weren´t so wrong with our idea, to check the local fish market on the next day for the cath of the day, but more on that topic later.

The wind shifted and picked up a bit, so we moved on to a spot along the bay further south, called Mexicos. A lot of locals, including the King brothers were already out and ripping in the perfect conditions. Long clean peeling waves, logo high with sideoffshore wind, it can´t get much better than that. We all made the best of that day, and actually wouldn´t have turned down the help of some sherpas to get back to the parking lot on top of the big sanddunes after a long day sailing..

To fill up your energy level, Cornwall has a lot to offer, instead of the bad image of british receipes. Next to a great number of various high calory sweets as cream teas, the local speciality are pies with an endless variety of fillings. On the other end of the scale Watergate Bay, north of Newquay is home of the famous restaurant „Fifteen“, run by well known Chef Jamie Oliver.

Back to the five star menue Cornwall offers for all surfers and windsurfers; in the following days the locals weren´t too keen on the conditions due to an unusual weather pattern with north easterly winds. Good for us, we had most of the beaches and waves to ourselves. Ok, nearly all to ourselves, due to the fact that there were always surfers in the water. But really relaxed members of that species, as we found out, especially after Christian dropped into some waves, unfortunately during a surfcontest. Not only a surfcontest, but a surfcontest of members of the Royal Marines, holding their internal championship. Instead of harsh words or military action including the line up of the Royal Navy Christian was even cheered on for a good waveride. Strange, but better don´t try to repeat it....

Surfing is lifestyle in Cornwall, with the boards dragged along on the cars not only for decoration reasons. On Newquay´s mainstreet, shops of all major brands are lined up, and even in the smallest towns you will find a surfshop next to the inevitable pub.
