So it was no surprise that 2011 saw the 2nd edition of the event, with Billabong jumping on board as a title sponsor. 48 kiteboarder plus a whole entourage of friends, guests and media boarded the Sunsail catamarans in Tortola on the 25th of Februar and set sail, bound for the North Sound. It is hard to describe the view when you enter this natural bay formed by the islands of Virgin Gorda, Mosquito Island, Prickly Pear and Saba Rock. Even if you have been there before, the pure blue water will be a stunning feast to your eyes. Mix that with Megayachts anchored all over the place and you have the setting for day one of the Kitejam...

While last year the trade winds failed to materialize, this year was full on. 20knots sideshore and perfect flat water inside the reef of the privately owned island Eustatia were the stage for some insane action of the Pros like Dave Blair, Andre Phillip, Sander Lenten, Youri Zoon, Madison Vheurk, Shanon Best, Kristin Böse, Madison Vheurk, ...
Meanwhile some riders followed Pete Cabrinha to the reef to check out the waves.

By the end of the first day everybody was totally stoked, with all the possibilities the North Sound had to offer and the party on Saba Rock, a tiny little patch of rock, basically covered by a cool bar was in full swing. Little did the riders know that the best was still to come...
Eventually everybody made it back to their yachts somehow to be ferried over in the early morning hours to the birthplace of the BVI Kitejam, Necker Island. Opening the eyes for breakfast, which was quite a task for some of the party people made you see a little piece of paradise, floating in turquoise waters with palm trees waving in the steady trades. It didn´t take long for most of the riders to catch a dinghy to the beach with it luxurious pools and lounging area and to get a first taste of the kiting there. I reckon at this point nearly everyone was finding it hard to believe that this was basically the office for Charlie and Scotty...or at least their work place.
