Houston, ahem… Necker, we have a problem…….

No wind at the first contest day. But what else would you expect during a contest? But luckily the BVI – Kitejam is not an ordinary contest and the possibilities of Necker island and surroundings are almost endless. Surfing, paddle boarding, wakeboarding, diving, a stroll on one of the islands, spectacular views or just chilling on one of the islands and soaking in the incredible ambience were the alternatives.
Sir Richard Bransons is a passionate kiteboarder himself and was involved in realizing the idea of the kitejam, together with Scotty and Charlie, his kite instructors on Necker island. And he didn´t hesitate to compete himself and be the host on Necker island. The high expectations on ambience and party didn´t get disappointed, even the full moon joined the party and put the island into an unbelievable light until finally the last one found his way back to the boats.

Maybe some of the Kitejammers weren´t too unhappy after a night of wild party, when next morning the wind wasn´t sufficient for the 12 miles race to Anegada and a sailboat race was started instead. A race that still isn´t officially decided up to date. Some say that the winning boat had used a kite to get more sail area and it still is discussed if this trick fits into the rules.
On the other hand this was a kitejam and therefore it should be legal to use a kite….
At least all crews reached Anegada, a long island sheltered by the third largest reef of the world.

Planet Anegada, a perfect skatepark for kiteboarders

There´s no better way to describe the view on the area, that you get from a helicopter. Mangroves, mountains of Conchshell mussels, flat water behind a reef with incredible water colors plus a few shipwrecks for grinding, perfect downwind runs, waves for the experts, sheltered bays for the beginners with dream like sandy beaches.
