Canos de Meca:

East of the Cabo Trafalgar lies the little town of Canos de Meca. Itīs mainly a holliday resort with a couple of little shops, some bars and restaurants. The atmosphere is very laid back but You have to take care with parking Your car. Thieves are very active especially in the summer season. Many people park their vans directly at the “parking lot” at the western end of town and stay there over night. The police doesnīt like that very much and especially in summer comes to control that. Better stay on a campsite or in an apartement in town.

In front of town is a series of flat but sharp reefs with some small sandy pads in between. Thatīs where You enter the water. itīs a bit tricky to come back to land on the right spot. The place catches southerly swells and easterly windswells pretty good and forms some nice lefts. For westerly swells head to Cabo Trafalgar where You find good rights. Summer is dominated by the easterly Levante winds which can get very strong and often lasts for several days.

windsurf: when Tarifa has gale force winds Canos will have 5 to 7 bft coming perfectly sideshore from the left. After 2 days of blowing the Levante builds a nice and rippable windswell which gives waves even in summer.  When winterswell combines with Levante conditions the place offers really good wavesailing conditions. Due to the small reef the place gets too crowded very fast.

surf: good surfconditions only occur in winter as the place is blocked from nortwesterly swells which are the most common in summer. Southswells are very rare but can bring massive waves. But usually itīs a small wave spot and bringing a longboard is always a good idea.

kiteboarding: on the many days with small waves and lighter winds in summer this is a very popular kitesurfing spot. To get in is a bit tricky but once Youīre outside itīs perfect!
