Playa de Berria

Large sandy beach facing north and bordered by huge cliffs to the east and to the west. The central part of the beach is dominated by another failed tourist investment with a large parking area ending with a concrete wall at the beach and a few ruined houses scattered between the beach and the road. A bit further west sits a large hotel. Several holiday houses and a surf shop are spread along the road running parallel to the beach. The east end of the beach is dominated by a large jail (must be the one with the best view in Spain).

The high tide line runs along the low dunes dividing the beach from the flat inland. The low tide line follows more or less the northern end of the cliffs. Waves are breaking at both ends off the beach just in front of the cliffs and with several peaks at the central part of the about 1 km long beach. Watch out for eddies at the western part of the beach that appear even with small waves.

Surfing: Nice beach break waves with all tides that work best with smaller swells.

Windsurfing / kiteboarding: best at lower tides when the cliffs block the wind the least.
