Mandriola:

That little village is situated at the beginning of the Capo Mannu peninsula. It is mainly a holiday village, where many locals and italians from the mainland have there little appartement or house. Whilst in summer the place is full of life and a couple of bars and restaurants make living easy, in winter the village converts into a ghost town. Only the Bar Lepori has open year round which makes it a very valuable thing if you want to take a coffee and some brioches before or after your winter session. And yes, they have Ichnusa, the local beer too. This is the place where all the surfers and windsurfers and of corse the kiteboarders too stop. Good to get some local knowledge. Just be friendly and know a couple of italian words.

For accommodation there is only a fancy hotel at the end of the road. Vans can park at the Su Pallosu beach on an official camper parking. Don´t expect too much though as the parking is just a sandy area without any facilities.

Coming from the mainland a narrow dam devides the laggons from the mediterranean sea. The lagoon is a popular place with flamingoes and shouldn´t be entered. The med beach has fine sand and in summer is usualy calm. Good place for bathing then.

windsurfing: the beach is protected by the peninsula und usually doesn´t get much waves. Don´t let yourself be fooled by the pics, they were taken during a heavy storm. Winds from the west and northwest are best and come side- to sideoffshore. They provide a beginner friendly fun sailing area even though northwest (Mistral) winds are a bit gusty as they come sideoffshore. Take care with the anchored fishing boats in front of the beach!

kiteboarding: the fairly large sand beach makes this a very good place for kiteboarding. Even during summer the afternoon breezes get strong enough to launch the kite.

surfing: as said before, the beach is protected from westerly swells by the peninsula. But when Capo Mannu gets double overhead the swell bends around the cape and comes in hip high. With northwesterly winds (Mistral) the wind comes sideoffshore. Then you have the choice between the sandbars in front of the dam or a mixture of reef and sand along the seaside promenade of the village. Can be a lot of fun especially with longboards.

When swells come from the south or southwest things change and the beach catches some solid waves. Best option is a storm from the southwest and winds turning west nothwest. After a period of strong enough winds there is usually one day left with light or offshore winds and swell. Very nice then!
