Saint-Cyr-00-h

Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer / Les Lecques

Framed by the rocky headlands of Cap Saint Louis and Pointe Grenier lies the beautiful Baie des Lecques. Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, the main town in the area isnīt exactly “by the sea” as it lies a little bit inland. Directly bordering the sea are Les Lecques and La Madrague, both having little harbors mainly hosting yachts with the typical tourist infrastructure of bars, restaurants and shops.

The wide sandy beach in between these two towns is accompanied by a promenade with parking lots behind – almost all off them with height restricted access – and an abundance of holiday homes and campgrounds just behind. Needless to say that beach access during peak tourist (summer) months is very difficult.

Surfing: There are a few ok breaks along the sand beach which have some ok waves mainly in winter months. The righthand point at the northern end of the bay can get really good and consequently is the main attraction for surfers in the area which means a solid and competitive crowd.

Windsurfing / Kitesurfing et al: Mistral winds blow side-shore but are generally extremely gusty due to the hilly topography. Side-onshores arenīt much better. If you can handle the challenging on-off conditions and a westerly swell meets the northerly Mistral, very good wave-sailing is on offer. Albeit, this combination is quite rare.
