Cavalaire-sur-Mer

Another east-southeast facing section of this coast – und thus protected from the predominant westerly winds and swells – with a larger sandy beach that started with a fishing village and now has a large yachting harbour, a faceless 1970-ies “styled” town centre and vast holiday homes and tourist facilities spread throughout the surrounding flats. A generally nice area spoiled by empty-headed tourism development.

The beaches to the east are quite nice though, stretching for one-and-a-half kilometres from the harbour to the Plage du Débarquement, where you find some fancy restaurants and bars. From here on the coast becomes rocky again, with low cliffs stretching along the eastern side of the bay to Gigaro and the beautiful Cap Lardier.

The beaches are perfect for swimming during the summer months and otherwise allow some wind-related water sports and when conditions align the odd surf session.

The hinterland is dominated by the Massif des Maures which provides some nice walking and cycling and along the ridge running parallel to the coast stunning views on the sea, the beaches and bays and the offshore islands.
