Glass Beach
A little bend in the coast line of that little sand desert south of Corralejo creates a fun setup consisting of a reef that forms a nice A – frame plus sandy beaches on both sides of the reef. The road from Corralejo to Puerto del Rosario comes very close to the sea here and has a hard shoulder that offers unlimited parking possibilities. Access to the beach therefor is very comfortable here. The large sandy parts of the beach again are very comfortable for your feet. This is one of the few places of the island where you can go out without having to worry about damaged feet.
As if this wouldnīt be already enough, a series of self-made stonewalls gives protection from the wind for sun bathers and a beach bar offers drinks and some food. No wonder that this place is very popular and seldom orphaned.
Surfing:
A big north swell (swells from the east are almost impossible due to the proximity of the island to the African coast) is necessary to create some waves here. When this coincides with westerly winds, the reef offers are fast right-hander and a very nice left. But the necessary swell and wind combination to make the A – frame work are rare and usually only occur in winter. And when itīs on, itīs never empty. A bit further up and down the reef break a few more waves with less quality but usually also less crowds.
Windsurfing:
Big north Swells in combination with northerly winds bring fun sideshore wavesailing. Northeast trades come side-onshore and offer bump and jump conditions. The bend in the coastline delivers easy entrance, you just have to pass a little shorebreak, have time to accelerate in the calm area sheltered by the bending coast before you reach the first breaking waves. Getting out is easy and with a little upwind sailing you can choose your lefthander on the reef comfortably before starting your downwind ride.
Kiteboarding:
Same as with windsurfing. The large sandy areas deserve extra mention for very comfortable starting / landing the kite.
