To play things safe – concerning the need to surf and the risks of getting lost on the search – I drove directly to the beach where the Swedes held their longboard championship. I reached the shore five minutes into the final heat.

The wind was blowing side-onshore and some waves were rolling over the sandbar. Nothing great, pretty windblown but surf-able. When the final whistle blew I went back to the car, got into my wetsuit and grabbed the longboard.

I managed the tricky walk over the submerged rocks – due to the constant southwest wind the water level had risen a bit – and onto the little landing stage from where you jump into the sea. When well timed you can paddle out with dry hair from here.

Out in the lineup the waves were pretty wobbly but had some size. After a while I understood how the waves break here and caught a nice long ride all the way to the beach from where I walked back to the landing stage. It was an o.k. session but not precisely what I had in mind, when starting this trip a couple of days ago.

From the lineup I had seen a wave breaking at a point further down, but it was too far away to paddle over against the wind.
