Waves were head-high now at the outer reef-edge but did not have much punch out there. The smaller ones breaking further inside actually were more powerful and much better suited for short boards. So, set waves were longboard waves and shared between two or three guys while the bigger shortboard crew had to take what the loggers left.

The two guys from Milano who were camping out in the region since weeks like me but with classic VW buses were out again. Matching their buses, they were surfing on single fin boards and with a very traditional style. The other guys – and a boogie board gal – were locals or at least from the island. The forecast hadnīt been good enough for mainland Italians hopping on the ferry and scarifying a precious holiday day.

For me, these mediocre days – the wind was westerly which is onshore on the coast with the best swell exposition and it was cloudy, with occasionally some rain and the air temperatures didnīt surpass 10 Celsius – were the major reason to cancel my original plans of getting back to the mainland and heading further south into unknown territory.
