Med chances-win-01h

I had spent the night at the beach south of Bastia and drove to the harbour at 6 in the morning. It was a Saturday and that early in the morning the streets were empty and there was no risk of missing the ferry due to the notorious traffic jams on the single route into town and to the port. With first daylight the ship left the harbour and I spent the first minutes of the crossing on the upper deck enjoying the stunning view on the mountainous northern part of the island in a beautiful morning light.

While waiting for the ferry to arrive, the customs guys came around and wanted to have a look into my van. My wetsuit was hanging in the back to dry and one of the officers questioned me if I had been wreck-diving. I said no and that I had been surfing but he insisted to have a closer look into the back of my van. Underneath my bed I have plenty of proof – four windsurf boards and four surf boards – for my claim and it at least convinced his colleague. After a quick look she told him that I´m a surfer and they were satisfied and left. Obviously some divers take souvenirs which they aren´t allowed to take.
