Otherwise, further to the northwest, there is a grot with the so called Blue Eye. When the sun shines from the zenith at noontime, the sunlight enters the grot and hits a little lake inside, and turns the water into extremely bright blue colors.
Other than that, the alternatives for windless days and the choice of touristic attractions are rare on the Island of Sal. But this is not necessarily meant in a negative sense…
As on all the other Cabo Verde Islands, there are construction sites everywhere and people and companies are building like crazy. Unfortunately, this does not make the island more attractive. Currently, new huge hotels are built around Santa Maria, so expect at least some noise from construction sites around. Most of the building sites are located a bit further towards the westerly part of Santa Maria, thus it is more or less quiet around Ponta Leme and closer to the windsurfing centers.
