underground:
somewhere in northern Jylland, there is a little bend in the otherwise pretty straight coastline. At least, at the moment, there is a little bend. The storms of the upcoming winter might change this again. Anyhow, at the moment a pretty good wave brakes here, when the conditions are right.
update spring 2007: the mentioned bend in the shoreline became a victim of the winter storms and is gone. Now thereīs a string of peaks along the beach, many of them with the tendance to break closeout. Currents have become stronger.
To get there, leave Your car at the lawn parking and follow the path through the dunes. As this place is not far away from a little fishing and holliday town that is very popular with surfers, windsurfers and kiteboarders, donīt expect it to be empty, when the conditions are right and it happens to be a summer weekend or the danish surfing championships.
For food, places to sleep etc. go to the mentioned town.
surfing: the place works best with southwesterly and westerly swells in combination with winds from the south, or even better, from the east. The jetty of the above mentioned town bends the southwesterly swells so that they meet the coast in a 45 degree angle. The sandbar at the bend than produces nice lefts than can offer pretty long rides and short but punchy rights. Be carefull with the rights as they like to close out in very shallow water.
The place starts working with tiny little windswells and can hold some solid ground swells. Be ready to get there quick, as the combinations of south and southwest swells with favourable winds never last long. Usually itīs a question of hours to get it right.
windsurfing: if you donīt mind carrying your stuff for quite a distance through the dunes you can get nice side to sideoffshore wavesailing conditions with southerly winds.
