It was mid-May, and a series of prolonged weekends of Ascension and Pentecost was ahead. In the good ol´ days this would have meant preparations for trips to Denmark´s west coast, but these ships have long sailed due to everybody and her uncle having the same plans nowadays and resulting unbearable overcrowding. In fact, this has gone so bad, that I have stopped considering these holidays suitable for going anywhere since quite some years.

But there was a good wind forecast for a couple of days at the North Sea and I would be able to leave work for at least the week in between these holidays as everybody else was on holidays too. So, I started to dive deeper into the forecasts, especially having a look at the Baltic Sea and Kattegat as even the prospect of some nice wave sailing in Denmark couldn´t overcome my horror about the expected crowds there.

But the forecast for the Baltic was too weak and the Danish North Sea coast was about to get a string of days with north to north-westerly winds and fine weather. It looked good but the unavoidable overcrowding kept deterring me. Plus, the quite monotonous landscapes – sorry my Danish friends – that leaves very few plan-B options for the case that wind and waves do not cooperate.
