I reached Levanto in the evening. This town is one of the entrance gates to the Cinque Terre area, a stunning combination of spectacular coastline and ultra-picturesque former fishing villages desperately clinging to the steep cliffs of the coastal mountain range and a world heritage. Levanto – despite being very beautiful itself - cannot compete with the heritage villages but for Italian surfers is a probably even more precious heritage.
I had been here before (check this story) and knew how difficult it was to find a parking space for my van in the narrow alleys of the town and its seafront, which covers the whole length of the small bay. So, I decided to look for a campground and followed the signs through the town centre and to its border again and up a street barely wide enough for my van until I reached the entrance to the
Acqua Dolce camping a bit up the hill at the eastern part of the bay.
The gate was open and so I could get in and look for a free space. Even in the dark I already could see that this was a very beautiful site, and it was just a 10 minutes’ walk to the beach. It looked like a perfect basecamp for the next two days.
