According to the forecast the swell had peaked around midnight – that was when I had been worried about the waves washing over the parking lot – and was slowly dropping now. It was about ten now and the swell should have been “down” to 1.6 m with 11 seconds period. This still a very powerful pulse, particularly for the Mediterranean Sea with its limited extension.

In fact, an 11 to 12 seconds period is an absolute rarity considering the very limited fetch from here to the western fringes of the Med over at Spain. I was really wondering what it would have looked like had the 2.0 m @ 12 sec peak of the swell hit this break during daylight. But the actual action was stunning enough and kept me glued to my shooting position on the jetty despite a growing hunger. Breakfast was more than overdue now for me, but who really wants to leave a scenery like this, especially when it is so rare.
