At the end of the road was a little parking. I found one spot large enough for my van, parked it and went to search the waterfall. From the parking one can only see that there is some sort of canyon, but once you get close enough it becomes clear that this is quite some canyon and down there, water is falling down quite a bit.

Now that would have been an impressive waterfall almost anywhere else, but this is Iceland and in the islands standards this is a nice waterfall. But the combination of the waterfall with the canyon made up for a scenery very worth visiting. I stayed for a while and enjoyed the view before I left. The next stop would be the real thing, the Dettifoss.

But first I had to drive up that steep and muddy track over the hill. I waited for a couple of oncoming cars to pass and then pressed the gas pedal to gain enough momentum to make it up there, hoping that no other car would arrive at the top of the hill and force me to stop the van halfway up. I was lucky and rushed up smooth without any troubles. Good ol´ trusty van.
