That was an easy drive with plenty of landscape and semi-arctic flora to see but it soon became difficult again. Right at the summit another sign was warning about a steep descend. The road seemingly dropped into the void leading down to a valley very far down below. I once again was glad about my renewed brakes but nevertheless stayed in low gear to make use of the engine-brake. The drive still made some sweat pearls appear on my forehead and I was very relieved once I reached the bottom of the valley.
From there the road ran along a plateau and soon returned to the coast which consisted mainly of vertical cliffs. As so often there was no possibility to stop the van and take time to soak in the view. So, I kept cruising on the gravel road and kept an eye on the scenery until, already far into the Vapnafjordur – another one of these fjords cutting deep into the island – I spotted a small parking lot.
It was situated above a waterfall and I took the chance to walk down to have a better view. It was a very beautiful waterfall and I enjoyed watching it in the total silence when I suddenly heard some whirring noise above me. I looked up and saw a drone. I couldn´t believe it. The past three hours I met about 5 other cars in an area otherwise void of any humans and just now another tourist had stopped his car just after me and started a drone to fly it above the waterfall. He didn´t even bother to walk down to look at it himself.
