The air on the outside deck was vibrating with excitement and people were cramming at the front railing to get the best view. I was commuting between port and starboard watching in awe the scenery at one side of the ship while constantly being afraid that I might miss something even better at the other side.

We passed the odd hermitage at the foot of almost vertical green mountain flanks, a few larger settlements and many fantastic rock formations. Green was again the ever-dominant colour at land and contrasted very well to the deep blue of the sea.

Our captain was a good navigator and we safely passed the narrowest part of the strait. We now entered the part of the strait that I had seen from above during my hike at Gjógv from yesterday. The different perspective was great and especially the view of the vertical cliffs from below was thrilling.

This passage alone was worth the money for the ferry. But the main reason I was on that ship was that I wanted to get to Iceland with my van. After that brilliant evening passage of the Farre Islands I now had to spend just one more night before I would enter a – for me – completely new world.
